Colleges: USF Women down Jacksonville in exhibition

Gina Pacheco and Chelsea Klotz scored second half goals as host South Florida opened its exhibition season with a 2-0 win against Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulls didn’t allow a shot on goal for the game, but it took until the 66th minute before Pacheco gave the Bulls the lead. Pacheco earned her first international cap for Canada over the summer.

Former Tampa Prep standout Klotz then added a second goal less than five minutes later, off an assist from fellow forward Brittany Burt. Klotz led the Bulls with four goals last season.

Having only opened training camp on Wednesday, Bulls coach Denise Shilte-Brown was pleased with the team’s performance.

“It’s a good first showing, we’re proud of the girls,” Schilte-Brown told USF radio after the game. “We’ve just gotten into preseason, so we haven’t touched on all our tactical information, so what we’ve worked on mostly has been defense, so keeping their shots down to zero was a real positive sign.”

USF has another exhibition on Saturday against Saint Leo before it opens the regular season on Aug. 28th at home to Florida Atlantic.
