College: Tampa men, Saint Leo women picked to win SSC

The University of Tampa men's soccer team has been picked to win the Sunshine State Conference this season, receiving 14 of the possible 18 first place votes in the poll of coaches and sports information directors.

Voters were not allowed to vote for their own school in the poll.

Tampa was second in the SSC last season, and returns nine starters including goalkeeper Ryan Thompson, midfielder Pascal Milien and defender Dan Ingvarsson, who were all SSC first-team selections a season ago.

Saint Leo was picked to finish fifth in the nine-team conference, while Eckerd College was picked seventh.

Saint Leo's women, however, were picked to earn back-to-back SSC championships.

The defending champions received 10 first place votes, compared to eight for second-placed Rollins College, and have reigning SSC Player and Offensive Player of the year Hannah Beard returning. Beard scored 17 goals, and led the SSC with 46 points a season ago.

Tampa was picked to finish fourth in the women's poll, while Eckerd, which went winless in SSC play a season ago, was selected ninth.
