Preps: Smith no longer Tampa Prep coach

The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that Pam Smith is no longer the coach of the Tampa Prep girls soccer squad after not having her teaching contract renewed by the school, with Smith's former assistant Cindy Schofield being named her successor.

Smith had been named the girls soccer coach of the year by both the Times and the Tampa Tribune after returning with the Terrapins to the state final last season. She guided Tampa Prep to a state championship in 2008.

The Terrapins should have a talented squad returning this season for Schofield to work with as they look for a third straight trip to the state final four. Leading the squad should be senior goalkeeper Jordan Hatton, who has committed to Appalachian State, and Region III Olympic Development player Colby Maffei, who scored 30 goals for the Terrapins as a freshman a season ago.
