Colleges: Tampa women blast Chowan for first win

Tampa took out its frustrating opening to the season on Chowan, as it blasted the Braves for seven goals in the second half in an 8-0 victory at the Columbus State tournament in Georgia on Sunday.

Megan Tobin and Sarah Kneeland each scored twice as the Spartans won for the first time this season.

Tobin scored the only goal of the first half in the fifth minute, but then after Kneeland scored 45 seconds into the second half, the floodgates opened. Kneeland and Tobin each bagged their second with moments of each other before Jazmin Perry scored her third goals of the season.

Molly Gottlieb, Caroline Spencer and Nicollet Rommel also scored for the Spartans (1-2-1), who outshot the Braves 35-1. Sage Steinmetz recorded the shutout despite not being forced into a single save by the Braves (1-4-1).

The Spartans now return home, and will host West Georgia on Friday night at 7 p.m.
