Colleges: Warren, Ingvarsson lead Spartans past Saints

No.1 Tampa continued its perfect start to the season as Lister Warren scored twice in six minutes to lift the Spartans (3-0-0) to a 3-1 victory against North Georgia on Sunday afternoon.

Warren finished off a move started by Dan Ingvarsson, who found Dominic Goncalves out wide. Goncalves fed the ball in front of the net to Warren, who finished clinically in the ninth minute.

Warren then doubled the Spartans’ lead in the 16th minute, this time set up directly by Ingvarsson off a free kick.

North Georgia (2-2-0) pulled a goal back six minutes into the second half as Calvin Cook beat Tampa goalkeeper Ryan Thompson from the top of the penalty area, but Mike Bethel restored the Spartans’ two-goal advantage in the 56th minute.

North Georgia pushed to get back into the game, but were unable to beat Thompson again as the Tampa goalie finished with five saves. The Saints also finished the game a man down after Caleb Turner was sent off for his second yellow card in the 82nd minute.

Tampa will face the Savannah College of Art and Design next Friday at 3:30 p.m.
