Colleges: Spartans reel off third straight win

The University of Tampa’s women earned a third consecutive victory as it defeated Warner International 2-1 on Sanday evening in Lake Wales.

Molly Gottlieb and Brittan Spence both scored before half time for the Spartans (3-2-1), who controlled the bulk of the game outshooting the Royals 24-4.

Gottlieb scored her third of the season, all three coming over the past three games, as she headed home Dana Palmiotto’s cross in the 39th minute. Spence added the second five minutes later as she scored off an assist by Megan Tobin.

Danielle Chapuseau pulled back a goal for the Royals in the final minute of the game, spoiling Saige Steinmetz’s chance at a third straight shutout.

The Spartans travel to Columbus State next weekend, and will face Carson-Newman on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. before they face the host Cougars at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
