Former Newsome High standout Morgan Sammons scored twice as Florida Southern earned its third consecutive victory over Tampa with a 3-0 victory at Pepin-Rood Stadium on Friday evening.Sammons opened the scoring in the fourth minute as she roofed a shot out of the reach of Spartans goalkeeper Kendall Bourdon. Princess Haley assisted on Sammons first goal, and she did the same for strike-partner Kerri-Ann Brock in the 20th minute, striking a free kick into the penalty area that Brock drove home, giving the Moccasins (8-5-0, 4-1-0) a 3-0 halftime lead.
Sammons scored her second three minutes later with a solo effort, beating the Spartans defense before breaking in alone to score.
Tampa (5-6-1, 1-2-0) raised its game in the second half, but wasn’t able to rally as Martina Tangen earned the shutout for the Moccasins. The Spartans travel to face Eckerd on Wednesday night looking to even their Sunshine State Conference record.
