Preps: Plant's upset bid falls in overtime to Palm Harbor

Plant's boys bid to reach the Class 6A-Region 2 final came up just short on Wednesday night as Ben Sweat's overtime goal gave Palm Harbor University a 3-2 victory, sending the Hurricanes through to face Orlando Olympia in Friday's region final.

In what has been a breakout season for the Panthers, restoring some of the luster to a program that had underachieved in the past few seasons, the end was a disappointing one. That said, it appears Coach Chris Carbon has this side pointed in the right direction, and while they will lose a good amount of senior talent before next season, there should be enough returning for the Panthers to make another run at the region playoffs.

The Hurricanes, on the other hand, haven't made it easy on themselves so far, needing a penalty shootout to defeat Bloomingdale prior to Wednesday night's result. The Hurricanes, though, are a very talented team that is certainly capable of reaching the final four again after winning the Class 5A title last season.
