Preps: Good news, bad news for Countryside

The St. Petersburg Times' Bryan Burns reported on Monday that Countryside coach Dave Sice had his suspension for a red card against East Lake on Dec. 19 reduced to just three weeks, but forward Nikolai Hammer will have to sit out the full six weeks for his ejection in the same game.

Hammer would be eligible to play if the Cougars made it to the Class 6A-District 7 championship game, while Sica should be on the sideline this Friday when Countryside faces Sarasota.

While having Hammer unavailable for the start of the district tournament, the Cougars performance without him and Kyle Eichof at the High School Classic where they reached the quarterfinals should give them hope that they can get to the district final, and thus a place in the region tournament, without their standout playmaker.
